How quickly this change was brought about may be seen from the fact that although the great Mother House of the Order was still on Carmel – the cradle of the Order’s most venerable traditions – it is at Aylesford in Kent that the General Chapter is held in 1245. This was the first General Chapter of the Order held in the West. At that Chapter, a General was elected who was to have a profound influence on the development of the Order in the West.”
