Today, we remember Fr. Eduardo “Eddie” C. Albiño, O.Carm. who died today in 2014.

Fr. Eddie was born on July 15, 1951 in Escalante, Negros Occidental to Eustaquio Lapidante Albiño and Visitacion Castillon.

He was the seventh of eight children.

He finished his elementary education in Libertad Elementary School in Escalante in 1963, and his secondary education in Mount Carmel College in 1967 where he also did his two years of college education. He was able to get his Bachelor of Arts degree on Liberal Arts at the Our Lady of the Angels Seminary in Novaliches, Quezon City in 1971. On the same year he entered the Carmelite novitiate at Mount Carmel Monastery under the guidance of the late Fr. Crispin Offermans, O.Carm.

He made his first profession in the Order on July 1973 and then did his theological studies at the Our Lady of the Angels Seminary.

He was ordained deacon on March 1976 by H.E. Jaime Cardinal Sin, and to the priesthood on December 19, 1976 by H.E. Epifanio Surban, bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete, at Mount Carmel Parish in New Escalante, Negros Occidental.

He was then assigned as pastor of St. Michael Parish in Bahbah, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur and after that became the social action diretor of the Diocese of Butuan (1981-1986), parish priest of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in San Francisco Agusan del Sur (1987-1990), formator of the scholasticate in Manila and vice commissary provincial (1990-1992), commissary provincial (1992-2000), and various other responsibilities and ministries.

He was the first Filipino Carmelite to head Mount Carmel College of Escalante in 1995, and the first Filipino to lead Philippine Carmel as commissary provincial.

The last assignment held by Fr. Eddie before his death was as member of the provincial council, provincial secretary, parochial vicar of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, convenor of the initial formation commission, and member of Young Carmel Philippines Foundation board.

Fr. Eddie united with our Lord in 2014 on this day, June 17, in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.
