By Ritche T. Salgado, O.Carm.

The Order of Carmelites in the Philippines celebrates the gift of vocation this year with ordinations, profession of vows, and a number of young men entering the postulancy and novitiate programs.

Last September 8, on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mother, Brothers Vinson Luayon, O.Carm. and Leo Nebril, O.Carm. were ordained to the priesthood by the Bishop of Cubao, H.E. Honesto Ongtioco, D.D. at the Minor Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Broadway, New Manila, Quezon City.

Ordination of Fr. Vinson Luayon, O.Carm. and Fr. Leo Nebril, O.Carm.

Because of the pandemic, the ceremony was witnessed by only a few priests who concelebrated in the mass including the prior provincial of the Order of Carmelites in the Philippines, Very Rev. Fr. Rico P. Ponce, O.Carm. and the provincial secretary and first provincial councilor, Rev. Fr. Esmeraldo Reforeal, O.Carm.

The ceremony was streamed via the Facebook page of the province (www.facebook.com/CarmelitesPhCom).

Last August 23, five brothers perpetually professed their vows to the Order in front of the Prior Provincial who officiated the ceremony in behalf of Prior General Míċéal O’Neill O.Carm.

The brothers are Vincent Sumanting, O.Carm., Marjune Caloring, O.Carm., Kim Paul Escobal, O.Carm., Flor Vincent Taoc, O.Carm., and Rio Mar Sindac, O.Carm.

The brothers will continue their theological studies but at the same time, they have been given ministries in the Order.

In the same celebration, Brothers Brandon Bahayanan, O.Carm., Alvin Francis Lozano, O.Carm., and John Lorenzo Morales, O.Carm. professed their first vows.

The novices with AMRSP Co-Executive Secretary Fr. Christian Buenafe, O.Carm., Provincial Secretary Fr. Esmeraldo Reforeal, O.Carm., Prior Provincial Fr. Rico Ponce O.Carm., Fr. Vinson Luayon, O.Carm., CMDO Director Fr. Christopher Labrador, O.Carm., and YCPF Director Fr. Ken Ombrog, O.Carm.
