Bld. Titus Brandsma and St. Boniface

Bld. Titus Brandsma was a steadfast devotee of St. Boniface, whose memorial we celebrate today, June 5.

In fact, he made an effort that the devotion to the saint would be propagated.

He has devoted several writings on the saint including an unfinished reflection on the Stations of the Cross, which he wrote while in prison in Dachau, before his execution.

He was also one of those who started the Confraternity of St. Boniface and Companions in 1925 and helped organize events and pilgrimages in order to raise funds for the establishment of a sanctuary and park in his honor. One of these events is the first ever national pilgrimage (1926) to the martyrdom site of St. Boniface in Friesland.

Below is a link of the sermon of Bl. Titus Brandsma during the National Pilgrimage in Dokkum:

Let us pray.

Lord, your martyr Boniface
spread the faith by his teaching
and witnessed to it with his blood.
By the help of his prayers
keep us loyal to our faith
and give us courage to profess it in our lives.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
