On January 9, 1990, Mother Maria Angelica, then prioress of Dumaguete Carmel, accepted the invitation of the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Capiz, a Negrosanon, H.E. Archbishop Onesimo C. Gordoncillo, D.D., to put up a foundation in the Archdiocese.
Six nuns were chosen for the start the foundation and they were formally installed in the Archdiocese on January 20, 1990 and stayed at a private residence while their house was still constructed.
They finally transferred to their new home in Barangay Lawa-an on November 16, 1991. In order to sustain themselves and their ministry, the nuns decided to build an all-purpose building that is being rented out to private groups for retreats, conferences, and as party reception places. They also ventured into host production.
The Vision-Mission of the sisters are as follows:
“We, the Cloistered Carmelite Nuns, women consecrated to God, striving to be one in mind and heart for the service of the Church and the human family, contribute to the growth of faith of the people of God by living faithfully our life dedicated to prayer and contemplation always open to God`s Word like Mary and to His presence in the Holy Eucharist, in His creation, in our lives and in each person and by responding to the needs of the people not only through our prayers and sacrifices but also by whatever we can share with them. Our community witnesses to the true and living God.”
Let us pray for our dear sisters, that they would continue to be a blessing to the Archdiocese of Capiz and its neighboring places.
May our dear Mother and Sister, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, continue to cover them with her love and protection.
May our Father, through the love and guidance of our Lord Jesus Christ in unity with the Holy Spirit, shower them with more spiritual blessings.
