Fr. Petrus Theodorus Kramer, O.Carm.

August 7, 1922 – May 28, 2021

Petrus Theodorus Kramer was born in Burgerbrug (Zipje), the Netherlands on August 7, 1922 to Johannes Elias Josephus Kramer and Alida Johanna Schrama.

On September 17, 1942, Peter entered the Carmelite novitiate in Boxmeer and professed his vows on September 23 the next year.

He finished his Philosophy studies at the Philosophicum der Karmelieten in Merkelbeek, Limburg in 1946 and went to the Theologicum der Karmelieten for his Theological studies, which he finished in 1950.

He was ordained a deacon on December 19, 1948 and to the priesthood on July 10, 1949.

After finishing his studies, he taught religion in Oss and in 1952 was the provincial delegate to the Third Order Carmelites, a position he held until 1958.

In 1953 he was chaplain at the house for the elderly in Amsterdam and the Catholic Young Workers, then again was a teacher in religion in Hengelo (1954-1957) and Boxmeer (1957-1963).

From 1964 to 1965, Peter took courses on eccumenism, phenomenology of Christian religion, Bible, pastoral theology, and liturgy at the Catholic University of Nijmegen.

On May 28, 1967, Peter arrived in the Philippines where he first studied language under the tutelage of Dutch Carmelite friars who came to the country before him. After this, he was assigned as assistant parish priest of Toboso in Negros Occidental and was the procurator in the Philippines from 1968 to 1993.

He also served the Carmelite-administered parishes and Carmelite schools in Escalante, Negros Occidental and San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

In 1985 he transferred to Quezon City where he served as the procurator of the province and delegate to the Third Order Carmelites.

In 1993, he joined the Spring of Carmel Novitiate Community as assistant novice master. He served the community until he returned to the Netherlands in 2014.

Peter died on 28 May 2021.
