Pentecost Sunday
Today, we remember the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and the followers of Jesus Christ who were huddled around His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the upper room where they had their last supper with Christ.
As the spirit descended on them as tongues of fire, they were empowered and emboldened to proclaim the Good News and to make disciples to the ends of the world.
This descent of the Spirit brought with it the completion of the work of redemption, the fullness of grace for the Church and its children, and the gift of faith for all nations.
As we celebrate this day, let us open ourselves to the call of the Holy Spirit as we proclaim: Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Let us pray.
God, our Father,
let the Spirit you sent on your Church
to begin the teaching of the gospel
continue to work in the world
through the hearts of all who believe.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
