Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished,
one of his disciples said to him,
“Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.”
He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Father, hallowed be your name,
your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.”

Luke 1`1:1-4

Point for Reflection
“In the Lord’s Prayer — in the ‘Our Father’ — we ask for our ‘daily bread’, in which we see a particular reference to the Eucharistic Bread, which we need in order to live as children of God. We also implore ‘forgiveness of our trespasses’. And in order to be worthy to receive God’s forgiveness we commit to forgiving those who have offended us. And this is not easy. Forgiving the people who have offended us is not easy; it is a grace that we must ask for: ‘Lord, teach me to forgive as you have forgiven me’. It is a grace.”
